Beals Point

  • 10 miles round trip

  • 2-3 hours

  • Mountain Bike - Moderate

  • Gravel Bike - Moderate

This route takes you south along the shore of the lake to the Beals Point area of the state park. The trail is wide, mostly very smooth, with some hills, and has many beautiful wide-open views of the lake.

Experienced mountain bikers can explore some of the side trails that lead to secluded beaches and other things to discover.

Note that the last part of the main trail leading into Beals Point is currently closed for construction, so this route takes the “Campground Trail” around it as a detour.

Granite Bay Loop

  • 9 miles

  • 2-3 hours

  • Mountain Bike - Moderate

  • Gravel Bike - Challenging

This route takes you north into the heart of the Granite Bay trail system. It offers a mixture of scenic strolls, curvy single track, fast and flowy downhill, and some moderate climbs.

Experienced mountain bikers will have time left over to repeat some of the fun sections or explore the many connected trails.

Intermediate Tour

  • 13 miles

  • 2-3 hours

  • Mountain Bike - Challenging

  • Gravel Bike - Expert

This route explores several of the “intermediate” trails (challenging for most riders) in the Granite Bay trail system. There are some technical sections, a few steep climbs, and a couple fast and uneven downhill runs, all connected by sections of smooth and flowy singletrack. There is even a run with constructed berms and jumps if you manage to find it!

Lake Natoma Loop

  • 27 miles

  • 3-4 hours

  • Mountain Bike - Moderate

  • Gravel Bike - Moderate

If you are looking for a longer ride or some pavement, this route goes south to Beals Point and then continues on the American River Bike Trail (paved and vehicle-free) to make a complete loop around Lake Natoma, downstream of Folsom Lake.

This route includes the “Campground Trail” detour around the portion of the main trail to Beals Point that is closed for construction.

While rounding Lake Natoma, you can stay on the paved trail or explore any of the dirt side trails that run parallel. Leave time to check out the Nimbus Fish Hatchery, Sac State Aquatic Center, and Historic downtown Folsom along the way.

If you want an even longer ride, the American River Bike Trail continues all the way to Sacramento, so you can rack up as many miles as you want!

Mostly Paved Tour

  • 12 miles

  • 1-2 hours

  • Mountain Bike - Easy

  • Gravel Bike - Easy

If you prefer pavement, you can follow the road through the state park for a nice ride. This route is almost all paved except for a short dirt trail detour around a section of the road that is currently closed for construction. Past the road closure there will be no car traffic, but you will share the entrance road with cars in the beginning.

Shortcut to Trails

  • 1 mile

  • 10-15 minutes

  • Mountain Bike - Easy

  • Gravel Bike - Easy

** Evenings and Weekends Only **

This shortcut offers an alternate way to get to or from the Granite Bay trails that avoids bike lanes altogether. It also provides a route to the American River Bike Trail that avoids the hills and worn sections of the Granite Bay Trail.

However, because this route goes through the grounds of a school, it is only open and allowed evenings after 4pm and weekends. You will also miss some of the best views on the Granite Bay Trail. Ride slowly and carefully.
